your asylum application or during the asylum process, you are putting a mark on your immigration file that can never be undone. Every time you try to enter the US after lying, your file will appear before the immigration officer and they will likely deny your entry because they will not trust you.
Ask your asylum attorney what to do if you have previously lied on an immigration application. The asylum attorney will know how to manage the situation and the asylum attorney will tell you whether or not you should even file for asylum. I always advise my clients to be honest up front, because lies will always come out and if you tell your asylum attorney immediately, they can better manage your case and help you navigate through the asylum process.
If you lie to your asylum attorney, they will put you on a path they think is right but ultimately when the lie comes out, both you and the asylum attorney can be punished. In addition, you will likely have a very upset asylum attorney to deal with for lying to him/her. As an asylum attorney, I know that many feel the need to hide facts or even lie to reach their goal of obtaining asylum status. What everyone should know is that even if you are successful at deceiving your lawyer and the asylum officers and even after you are granted asylum, the USCIS can always dig up your file and uncover your lies. They can revoke your asylum status and put your in deportation proceedings. That would be counterproductive for you and would ultimately hurt any chance of becoming a permanent resident in the US.
